We arrived in Bangkok around 11 am after a 14-hour train ride. The first thing I noticed was the smell. The smell of exhaust fumes, sewage and street food all mix together to create one of the worse smells ever! We spent most of the day walking around modern Bangkok, popping in and out of the air-conditioned malls and the subway to escape the stench. In the evening, we met up with a friend from Canada who is now living in Japan and coincidentally also decided to come to Thailand for New Year's!
On est arrivés à Bangkok vers 11 heures du matin, après avoir passé 14 heures dans le train. La première chose qui m'a frappée était l'odeur. Le relent des gaz d'échappement se mélange à l'odeur des égouts et de la nourriture des marchands ambulants pour créer une des pires odeurs que j'ai jamais senties ! On a passé la plupart de la journée à marcher dans le centre moderne de Bangkok, se réfugiant de temps en temps dans les centres commerciaux climatisés et le métro pour échapper à la puanteur. Le soir venu, on a rejoint un ami canadien qui vit maintenant au Japon et qui a aussi décidé de venir passer le Nouvel An en Thaïlande !
