We had decided to spend the latter part of our trip relaxing on a beach in Thailand. Then came the question of choosing the beach... Did we want to go to a higher-end resort, a party island, a remote island with no running water? In the end we picked an in-between version, Koh Chang, an island south-east of Bangkok near Cambodia. It is developing but not as developed as Phuket so it offered us a great place to relax along with commodities such as hot water!
Nous avions décidé de passer la fin de notre séjour à nous détendre au bord de la mer. Le choix de la plage en question n'a pas été facile. On pouvait rester dans une station balnéaire de luxe, une île festive, une île presque désertique sans eau courante... On a finalement décidé de trancher au milieu en choisissant Koh Chang, une île au sud-est de Bangkok, proche du Cambodge. L'île se développe rapidement mais n'est pas aussi développée que Phuket ce qui donne un bon endroit pour se détendre tout en ayant accès à l'eau chaude!
To get there, we had to take the bus from Bangkok and then a ferry to the island itself.
Pour accéder à Koh Chang, on a pris le bus de Bangkok puis un bateau jusqu'à l'île.
We had reserved a hotel on the south-west side of the island. The beach there was quite rocky but it had an infinity pool and a relaxed atmosphere. We spent the first day lounging by the pool and swimming in the sea...
On avait réservé un hôtel au sud-ouest de l'île. La plage était assez caillouteuse mais l'hôtel avait une piscine panoramique et l'atmosphère était décontractée. On a passé la première journée à se prélasser au bord de la piscine et à nager dans la mer...
The next day we walked to the north-west coast to Lonely Beach, a beautiful sandy beach that is very popular with tourists and locals alike.
Le lendemain on a marché jusqu'à Lonely Beach, une jolie plage de sable au nord-ouest de l'île qui est fréquentée par les touristes et les gens du coin.
I ate swordfish for the first time ever! It wasn't bad, a little chewy though.
J'ai goûté à l'espadon pour la première fois! C'était pas mal mais un peu caoutchouteux quand même.
On our last full day in Koh Chang we went to the south-east coast to the village of Bang Bao. Originally a small fishing village made of houses on stilts, it has now become the place to go for fresh seafood.
We went to a restaurant called Buddha View where you eat over a glass table, through which you can see what remains of an old statue of Buddha in the sea below. As we were on our way there, we met a couple of friendly Ukrainians with whom we had dinner.
Le surlendemain, notre dernière journée entière à Koh Chang, on est allés voir le village de Bang Bao, au sud-est de l'île. A l'origine, il s'agissait d'un petit village de pêcheurs vivant dans des maisons sur pilotis, mais c'est devenu le meilleur endroit pour manger des fruits de mer. On a mangé dans un restaurant appelé Buddha View avec des tables en verre qui permettent de voir les restes d'une ancienne statue de Bouddha dans la mer en dessous. En chemin, on a sympathisé avec un couple d'Ukrainiens et on a fini par manger avec eux.
The following day we took the ferry and then the bus back to Bangkok. We had booked a hotel near the airport that offered a free shuttle to the airport in the morning. That evening we walked around the area and came across a huge open-air market for locals selling everything under the sun!
Le lendemain, on a pris le bateau et puis le bus pour retourner à Bangkok. On avait réservé un hôtel près de l'aéroport qui offrait une navette gratuite vers l'aéroport. En se baladant autour de l'hôtel le soir, on est tombés sur un marché local qui vendait un peu de tout, comme vous pouvez le voir!
